The Big Dig (Part 3)

67.jpg

This project has one of the most challenging projects ever. It was the largest, technically difficult and environmentally challenging infrastructures in the history of the United States. It consisted of 7.8 miles of highway, 161 lanes miles, half of them were tunnels. It took about 3.8 million cubic yards of concrete and unearthed out 16 million cubic yards of dirt. The CA/T project can be compared to some of the other great works within the last century: The Panama Canal, The English Channel Tunnel (also known as The Chunnel), and The Trans-Alaska Pipeline. All of these projects shared challenges like earth slides, illnesses, environmental apprehensions, etc.
