The Big Dig (Part 2)
Massachusetts’ Turnpike Authority has thought of a project, resolutions for the Central Artery problems: The Central Artery/Tunnel Project. This project has two goals to be reached. The first one was to substitute the six-lane elevated highway to an eight to ten expressway lanes underground right beneath the existing sis-lane elevated highway. This elevated highway will then be bulldozed so that an open space will be present for development. The second one was the lengthening of I-90, the Massachusetts Turnpike. It will extend towards Logan Airport through a tunnel under South Boston and Boston Harbor. The four-lane, Ted Williams Tunnel under the harbor was accomplished in 1995.
